Self-Paced Courses
Self-paced courses are the most popular course format on Euron Systems. Students can access the content anytime, learn at their own speed, and revisit lessons as needed. This guide covers everything you need to know about creating effective self-paced courses.
What Are Self-Paced Courses?
Self-paced courses are pre-recorded, structured learning experiences where students progress through the curriculum on their own schedule. Unlike live courses, there are no fixed class times — students watch video lectures, read materials, complete quizzes, and submit assignments whenever it suits them.
Benefits of Self-Paced Courses
- Scalability — Create once, sell to unlimited students
- Passive Revenue — Earn money while you sleep
- Global Reach — Students in any timezone can participate
- Student Flexibility — Learners can fit study around their schedule
- Lower Instructor Workload — No recurring live sessions required
Creating a Self-Paced Course
Step 1: Plan Your Curriculum
Before you start building, outline your course structure:
- Define the learning objectives — what will students be able to do after completing the course?
- Break the content into logical modules (5-12 modules is typical).
- Within each module, plan 3-8 lessons.
- Identify where to place quizzes and assignments for reinforcement.
Step 2: Record Your Videos
Video is the backbone of most self-paced courses. Here are our recommendations:
| Aspect | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Video Length | 5-15 minutes per lesson |
| Resolution | 1080p minimum, 4K preferred |
| Audio | External microphone, quiet environment |
| Format | MP4 with H.264 codec |
| Captions | Always include SRT caption files |
Step 3: Build in the Course Editor
- Navigate to Courses → Create New Course and select Self-Paced.
- Fill in the course metadata (title, description, thumbnail).
- Use the Curriculum Builder to add sections and lessons.
- Upload videos — they are automatically transcoded and DRM-protected.
- Add supplementary materials: PDFs, downloadable resources, and external links.
Step 4: Add Assessments
Include assessments to reinforce learning:
- Quizzes — Multiple-choice or true/false questions after each module
- Assignments — Practical tasks students submit for review
- Final Exam — A comprehensive test covering all course material
- Practice Tests — Optional additional practice for exam-prep courses
Step 5: Configure Completion Criteria
Define what "completion" means for your course:
- All Lessons Watched — Student must view every video lesson
- Quiz Passing Score — Minimum score required on quizzes (e.g., 70%)
- Assignment Submission — All assignments must be submitted
- Final Exam Pass — Must pass the final exam
- Custom Combination — Mix and match the above criteria
Drip Content
Control when students can access content:
- Enrollment-Based Drip — Unlock Module 2 three days after enrollment, Module 3 seven days after, and so on.
- Date-Based Drip — Unlock content on specific calendar dates.
- Completion-Based Drip — Unlock the next module only after completing the current one.
To set up drip content:
- Go to your course → Settings → Drip Content.
- Select the drip type.
- Configure the schedule for each section.
- Save and publish.
Best Practices
- Keep videos short — 5-15 minutes is the sweet spot for engagement.
- Include practice exercises — Active learning beats passive watching.
- Use the discussion forum — Encourage peer-to-peer learning.
- Update regularly — Keep content current and relevant.
- Offer certificates — Certificates increase perceived value and completion rates.
